ROCHESTER ALLERGY ACTION AWARDS FUNDRAISING GALA
Thursday, October 10, 2019 | 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
ARTISANworks | 565 Blossom Road | Rochester, NY
We're very excited about our award winners!
The Dr. John J. Condemi Award will go to Dr. Jeremy Thomas Cushman from the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Cushman's creation of the Check and Inject program demonstrated that EMTs with special training can efficiently and effectively meet the needs of those with severe allergies by administering epinephrine with a special syringe instead of the costlier epinephrine auto injector. The lower cost syringe and vials enable EMT services to cost effectively keep epinephrine on hand at all times, thus saving lives.
The John J. Condemi Award is given to medical professionals doing work to expand awareness of allergies and how to treat them as well as advocacy to ensure access to epinephine however and wherever needed.
The Ruth T. Cornell Award will go to Jamie Kosten. Jamie, a student at McQuaid Jesuit, saved the life of his father, Scott Kosten, a beekeeper, from a life threatening anaphylaxict response to bee stings. With the help of 911 operators, Jamie kept his cool and injected Scott with the EpiPen the family had the foresight to keep on hand.
The Ruth T. Cornell Award is given to those outside the medical community who have signifigant impact on their community.
